Stumbling Threshold Weteringschans 31

This elongated brass plaque (Stolperschwelle or stumbling threshold), which was laid on 01-11-2023, commemorates:
* two tragic moments in the history of the city and school life: on November 1, 1940, 5 Jewish teachers were forcibly dismissed and on September 1, 1941, 65 Jewish students were expelled from the school. The Stolperschwelle is placed just in front of the 'old entrance' of the school and thus establishes a connection with the memorial plaque inside the old entrance of the school, which contains the names of Jewish Barlaeans who died in the war.

Were here
On November 1, 1940 – 5 Jewish teachers fired
On September 1, 1941 – 65 Jewish students forced to leave school.
Victims of persecution, deportation and murder.
They remain in our thoughts.
