Information board in memory of the Conrad labor camp in Rouveen on the Conradsweg.
Camp Conrad was one of the 3 work placement camps in the municipality of Staphorst. From 1929 to April 1942, unemployed people from the country were put to work here for land development. From April 1942, the unemployed had to be removed from the Conrad camp - by order of the German occupier - to make room for Jewish men. It later became clear what the intentions of the German occupiers were. Camp Conrad was not a labor camp for the Jewish men, but a gateway to the extermination camps in Eastern Europe.
After the war, 'wrong Dutchmen' were held prisoners in the camp. Between 1954 and 1966, 23 Moluccan families stayed at Camp Conrad.
