J.B.F. Cartland, Major 1st Bn Worcestershire Regt, Died 27 May 1918. Age 42. Soissons Memorial, France.
James served in the Worcesters from 1897 to 1903 but was remobilised at the outbreak of the Great War. After serving in GHQ he lead the Worcesters through the Battles of Messines and Cambrai in 1917. He fell on the first day of the German offensive on the Aisne on 27th May 1918

J.A.H. Cartland. 58905. Captain 2nd Bn Lincolnshire Regt. 29 May 1940. Age 27. Zuidschote Churchyard. Belgium.

James served in The Lincolnshire Regt and was killed in action as the Germans captured Ypres, on May 29 1940, the day before his brother.

J.R.H. Cartland. 70394 53 (the Worcestershire Yeomanry) Anti-Tank Regt. R.A.. Died 30 May 1940. Age 33. Hotton War Cemetery.

Ronald, the eldest son and Territorial officer, served as Conservative M.P. for Kings Norton until the outbreak of WW2 when he was mobilised into his regiment. He was killed at Cassel in command of an anti-tank defence protecting the British retreat to Dunkirk on 30th May 1940, the day after his brother, although news of his death was not confirmed until a year later.
