During the Second World War Croome Court was requisitioned by the Ministry of Works and leased for a year to the Dutch Government as a possible refuge for Queen Wilhelmina and the Dutch Royal family. Evidence shows that they did actually stay at Croome but only for 2 weeks.
RAF Defford was also built on the estate lands.
The 10th Earl of Coventry, the owner at the outbreak of WW2 was killed in action during the retreat to Dunkirk in May 1940.
