Bunker BE 8 Tilff

Bunker BE 8 is located along the road (N633) and the river Ourthe and is part of sector Boncelles-Embourg (BE) of the second line of defence for the city of Liège, la Position Fortifiée de Liège, (PFL 2).

It is one of the two observation bunkers of [towid]4626, Fort Embourg[towid]. The other bunker is bunker EC 1 bis of the Embourg-Chaudfontaine sector. This bunker does not exist mer, a house has been built over it.

The bunker is located exactly along the road.

The walls of the bunkers from the PFL line were 1.3 meters thick reinforced concrete. They could withstand shelling with 150mm shells.

The bunkers were built in the early 1930s. When after the war the bunkers lost their strategic importance for the Belgian defence, the metal doors and shutters were removed and sold as scrap. It is a large bunker and would hold a machingun and a 47 mm anti-tank canon. Some types would hold two machinguns.
