In 1940, an Army camp for conscripts of the Regiment Grenadiers and Hunters stood on the Waalsdorpervlakte. On May 10 and on May 14, this Camp Waalsdorp was bombed by German planes. In these bombings, 10 soldiers were killed.
Today nothing reminds us of the presence of the camp. Therefore, on the initiative of Lt. Col. Jurriaan Wouters and the June 18 Association, a plaque was placed, which was unveiled on Saturday, December 9, 2023, by two relatives of one of the fallen soldiers.
The plaque contains the names of the fallen:
Cornelis Julius van Amerongen
Hendrik Adrianus Bouwer
Petrus Cornelis Sicardus Goverde
Christopher Johannes Wilhelmus Jacobs
Theodorus Franciscus Antonius Luscučre
Jacobus Hendrikus Scheres
Leonardus Wagenaar
Jacobus Zegwaard
Willem Jacobus de Bruijn
Johannes Dirk Goedhard
