Museum Shriver House

In July 1863 the house was the home of George and Hettie Shriver and their children, Sadie (7) and Mollie (5). Built in 1860, it was one of the finest houses in Gettysburg and was also a business for George having 'Shriver's Saloon and Ten-Pin Alley' in the cellar. When the Confederate forces occupied the town they entered the Shriver House and established a snipers nest in the attic. Eyewitness accounts at the time report at least two Confederate casualties evidence of which has been confirmed by Crime Scene Investigation forensics. The house appears to have been used a medical facility with the discover of medical supplies as well as many unused and spent bullets during renovations.
The museum is dedicated to showing civilian life at the time of the Civil War and the house has been accurately furnished to reflect this. Re-enactors take you on a journey through the house as it might have looked including the snipers nest.
