During the Yugoslav war in the period May-June 1992, 14 babies were born in the Banja Luka maternity hospital and needed oxygen. Due to the war conditions, oxygen could not be delivered by land or air.
12 of the 14 babies died as a result. 1 baby died from these consequences 14 years later. The last baby is still fighting for his life to this day.
This monument was erected in memory of these babies and is also in memory of all the children who suffered in this war.
