War Memorial Cheratte-Haut

On the cemetery of Cheratte-Haut the monument commemorate the fallen soldiers of the village of Cheratte.

COUVELENCE Nicolas, age 24, soldier with the 26th linieregiment, killed on August 19, 1914 at Aarschot (Brabant).

COUVELENCE Noel, age 21, soldier with the 6th linieregiment, died at Nieuwkapelle (Dixmuide, West Flanders) on July 6th, 1915 from wounds sustained by shrapnel.


FREDERICK Joseph, age 26, war volunteer, soldier with the 6th engineer regiment, died July 16, 1919 at the hospital in Liège from pulmonary tuberculosis contracted during the war.

GILLON Nicolas, age 33, war volunteer, soldier with the 3rd regiment hunters on foot , killed in action at Oostwinkel (West Flanders) on November 1, 1918, more than 1 week before the end of the war !

DETILLOUX Hubert, age 25, soldier with the 14th line regiment, died in the ambulance in De Panne, (West Flanders) on November 11th, 1917 from wounds sustained by shrapnel.

RENSONNET Jacques, age 33, soldier with the Regiment Fortifiée de Liège, killed on August 5th, 1914 in the fierce fighting on the hill of Sart-Tilman at Liège. Missing ever since.

They also are remebred at the monument in front of the former townhal of the town of Cheratte. (panel in the middle, photo 3).
