Death Plaque Van Imhoffstraat 14

A plaque was placed on the case of this home with the cooperation of the Association June 18 in memory of its former and deceased occupant:

Jan Brouwers
Born 9-8-1944 in The Hague, died in the Allied mistake bombing of the Bezuidenhout on 3-3-1945.

It is unknown where Jan Brouwers is buried. Possibly nothing has been found of him or his remains lie in the collective grave at the General Cemetery The Hague Bezuidenhout. Here a large number of known and unknown victims are buried.

Bombardment Bezuidenhout.

The bombing of 3-3-1945 was a catastrophic mistake due to a series of causes. The actual target was the V-2 Launchers in the Haagse Bos, but the bombs dropped by 56 English planes struck the densely populated residential area. An estimated 532 people died and many others were injured. Nearly 3,400 houses were totally destroyed or severely damaged. The firefighting and rescue work was made more difficult by the fact that in the last months of the war there was almost no equipment available and the emergency services were still only poorly functioning.
