Belgian War Graves Wavreille

The Wavreille cemetery contains several war graves from the two world wars.

Cyrille RONDEAUX was a war volunteer with the 3rd (or 5th)
Regiment of Ardennes Hunters. He died for the fatherland in Het-Sas, part of it
Yser Front, on June 7, 1916. He was 27 years old.

Georges LAMY was a member of the Mouvement National Belge (Belgian National Movement), a group within the Belgian resistance during the occupation in World War II.
He was arrested on August 15, 1944 and died in the Neuengamme concentration camp on November 15, 1944 at the age of 23.

Joseph RENARD (°1902) was a farmer, married and father of four children.
Since 1939 he was mayor of the municipality of Wavreille.
He was arrested on August 14, 1944 because Nazis suspected him of making false identity cards for people under investigation.
He was interrogated in the Marche-en-Famenne commanderur and then approx
Imprisoned in Namur for 15 days.
Joseph Renard was transferred by train to Mauthausen in September 1944.
He was deported to Gusen settlement camp, where he died on December 28, 1944.
