Stumbling Stone Allée du Parc Astrid

On February 10, 2018, a Stolperstein was laid for Emile Palate in Koningin Astrid Park in front of the school building.

These brass plaques measuring 10 by 10 cm can be found in the sidewalk in front of the houses whose former, mostly Jewish, residents were persecuted and usually murdered by the National Socialists. The names and the date and place (usually a concentration camp) where they were murdered are punched into the small pictures.
These monuments also occur in many other cities and towns, especially in Germany but also in other European countries, and their number, now many thousands, is still increasing. Almost all Stolpersteine were laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
