The defensive lines of the city of Liege, known as "La Posistion Fortifiée de Liège" consisted of 4 defensive lines built around the city of Liège. It consisted of 16 forts with numerous bunkers in between.
In addition to these bunkers, there were also the so-called 'Position Avancées' advanced positions. Like this bunker at the advanced position Jalhay. The other positions were located in Beusdael, Bilstain, Dolhain, Goé, Grunhaut, Henri-Chapelle, Hèvremont, Hockai, Hombourg, Limbourg, Malmedy and as far as Stavelot.
This bunker 'B' belonged to the forward position of Jalhay. This position consisted of 6 bunkers, A through F. Bunker A no longer exists; it was demolished after the war.
Presumably they served as observation and protection bunkers for the frontier cyclists stationed in nearby barracks of the of the 'Gardes Frontière'. These barracks were located in Hombourg and Henri-Chapelle, among others.
The 'cyclistes frontières', frontier cyclists, who guarded the frontiers, moved by bicycle on patrol and to the surrounding bunkers in the nearby sectors.
The bunker is located in a meadow and still has its original steel door. The gun hatch is gone, though. The bunker is filled in with some posts. There are still some markings present with 'DN' Defense National that stood at the corners of the plot. A stable has been built against it by de new landowner.
