Belgian War Graves Onhaye

Onhaye cemetery contains several war graves from both world wars.

Adolphe POCHET, 28 years old, victim of the mass murder in Surice.
At the start of the First World War on August 25, 1914, German invasion forces committed a mass murder of the civilian population in this village, killing 69 people (men, women and children).
The village was burned down, only 8 of the 138 homes were spared.

Henri COLLIGNON died after the war but is considered a war victim there. He was wounded for the first time on August 12, 1914 in the Battle of Halen.
After his recovery he served with the 10th Artillery Regiment. On October 22, 1918, he was seriously injured and blinded by shrapnel during the liberation offensive in Bellem. He returned severely disabled and died in 1929.

Hector DUJARDIN, priest in Dinant, died on the field of honor in Aarsele on May 27, 1940. He was a corporal-stretcher bearer with the 3rd Engineers and was killed during the withdrawal of the troops after the fall of the Lys position.
