In a green strip at the junction of Rue Saint-Germain and Rue Vayez are an information board and several sculptures recalling the battle of Hamel on 4 July 1918.
The mainly Australian troops (with help from some American regiments) under the command of General John Monash applied a new tactic in their attack that day that resulted in them reaching the set objectives in only 92 minutes.
