Memorial 99th Infantery Battalion

The 99th Infantry Battalion (SEP) was a battalion composed of Norwegian-speaking American soldiers and Norwegian refugees and was initially formed at Camp Riley in Minnesota.
From December 1942 to September 1943 the battalion was transferred to Camp Hale to train in winter warfare.
The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) recruited its Norwegian Operational Group in 1943 from the 99th Infantry Battalion. These OSS men jumped in France, Norway and some carried out operations in China against the Japanese.
The 99th Infantry Battalion fought in Cherbourg, North France, Belgium, Aachen, the Ardennes Offensive and in Central Europe
