At the back of the Bruges Central Cemetery is the statue with the inscription "Pro Patria" for the executed or deported political prisoners and resistance fighters.
It is a work by sculptor Octave Rotsaert, unveiled on November 7, 1948.
It consists of a life-size figure on a pedestal and placed against a cross.
The figure represents a prisoner of war from a concentration camp.
The head proudly erect, the facial expression pure and serene, the camp trousers shabby over the bony limbs.
