Assebroek has 21 chapels, five of which are said to have been war chapels, founded in the summer months of 1944.
Currently three have been preserved, one of them is located at Astridlaan 114.
People gathered weekly to pray the rosary to be spared the violence of war.
During the war year 1944, Pastor Jules Faes was given permission to build first a temporary chapel and later a permanent one.
Originally it was made of wood with a standing statue of Mary, hung on a fence pillar.
After the war, a niche was cut out in the pillar and finished with a gable roof and an open wrought iron window.
There is currently a new building, the chapel has been preserved.
