Belgian War Grave Vonêche

The municipal cemetery of Vonêche contains the grave of veteran fighter 14-18 and resistance member 40-45 Victor POCHET.

He was a member of the Bourlet maquis, subdivision of the secret army zone V, Group C, sector 5 of Gedinne.
Baron d'Huart sheltered these maquisards in his domain in the Bois du Bourlet.
The Bourlet maquis had 6 resistance fighters:
Louis THOLOMÉ and Félix STEIVER, both killed on 5-9-1943 in action with Vonêche.
Victor POCHET - died in 1945 in Flossenbürg
Fernand DEVILLE - shot dead in Charleroi on 19-11-1943
Norbert SANDRON - shot dead in Vresse in May 1944
Victor MAGNIER - died 15-1-19145 in Reutlingen

Victor Pochet was raised in the most fervent patriotism.
This continued in personal commitment. He fought in the First World War and joined the resistance in the Second World War.
The Pochet family opened its doors to patriots and the house was often full of people until one day they were surrounded by the Germans.
Father Victor was captured and imprisoned in the concentration camp in Flossenbürg, where he died and was cremated in 1945.

His resistance activities were continued, especially by his daughter Blanche Pochet.
The maquis was organized, Blanchette led the mission and arranged for the transport of letters and information from Vonêche to the Maquis of Graide.
