Villa Hecht was built by a Jewish couple Felix and Helene Hecht.
It was one of the cultural centers of Mannheim at the time.
The couple were friends with Johannes Brahms, who was a guest there during visits to Mannheim.
Helene Hecht maintained a salon where, at least around the turn of the century, important personalities from cultural life - not only from Mannheim - met.
In 1899 the couple took part in the founding of the Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim.
Helene Hecht, widow, was deported on October 22, 1940 at the age of 86 and died during transport to Gurs.
