The Menno van Coehoorn Barracks, located on Klarendalseweg in Arnhem, was constructed in 1885 and served as a military facility. During the Second World War, the barracks were utilized by the Germans but avoided destruction during Allied bombings. After the war, the barracks were used to train troops for the Dutch East Indies. In 1967, a significant portion was demolished, and the remaining barracks building underwent renovation for subsequent cultural activities. In 2014, the entire site was occupied by the Multifunctional Center Klarendal. Named after Menno van Coehoorn, a renowned military engineer from the 17th century, the barracks were unique due to their square-shaped design.
