At the entrance to the club grounds the football club WV-HEDW (merger of Wilhelmina Vooruit and Hortus Eendracht Doet Winnen) stands a monument in memory of the members of both clubs who died during the German occupation. The monument consists of a metal memorial wall on which two plaques are affixed.
The text on the left plaque reads:
"IN MEMORY
TO OUR H.E.D.W.
CLUB FRIENDS
THEY FELL AS VICTIMS
OF THE GERMAN TERROR
1940 - 1945"
WE REMEMBER THEM
IN HONOR.'
Below the glass, the memorial plaque bears the names of 162 club members of HEDW who perished.
The text on the right-hand plaque reads:
"A.V.V.
WILHELMINA
FORWARD"
"IN WISTFUL MEMORY OF THE MEMBERS
WHO LOST THEIR LIVES TO US IN THE YEARS 1940-1945".
Below it are the names of 64 members who perished.
In May 2024, two new memorial plaques were placed with a total of 33 names.
Both football clubs were not exclusively Jewish clubs but had many Jewish members. (WV 45% and HEDW 95% were Jewish) This also explains the high number of members who perished.
