The cemetery near the church of Saint Roch at Soiron contains several war graves from both World Wars.
There is the collective grave of
GILLARD Leon
HANNON Joseph
PIRARD Leonard
According to the inscription, these brave Belgians were executed by the German barbarian hordes on Aug. 5, 1914, at 1 a.m. in the morning.
The three men are also commemorated on the monument in front of the church.
It should be remembered that the war for Belgium was then just one day old, when the Germans, during their advance to France, overrun Belgium.
So is the grave of DECLOUX Jean Martin. He was shot dead by German troops on August 5, 1914, at the age of 42. He was 'discovered' in a basement where he was keeping his sister company. Her husband served in the army. He was executed in by a shot to the back of the head.
Also located on this cemetery is the grave of Private POUMAY Armand. Fallen on the field of honor at Bavikhove (West-Flanders) at the age of 24 on May 24th, 1940. He was a soldier of the 1st line-regiment.
