Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. His campaign in the Shenandoah Valley in 1862 and his leadership of the Second Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia brought him great fame. On May 2, 1863, he was accidentally shot by his own sentries near Chancellorsville. He survived the gunshot wounds after his arm was amputated, but he died eight days later due to complications from pneumonia.
