Belgian War Graves Hollange

There are two war graves at the Hollange cemetery.

Emile-Joseph WINKIN, born in Hollange on March 13, 1890, fell on the field of honor at the fortress of Andoy on August 25, 1914.

Andoy was one of the forts around Namur. From there, the first shots of World War I were fired on August 14, 1914.
German fire first hit the fort on August 21. Andoy was heavily attacked by German artillery from August 22 to 24, 1914, killing 14 soldiers.
The forts of Namur fell quickly, commander Nollet of the Andoy fortress surrendered to the 11th Battalion of the German 32nd Infantry on August 24.
The Germans occupied the fort from 1914 to 1918.

Arsène TALBOT, born in Hollange on March 10, 1910.
He was a soldier with the 5th Ardennes Hunters 3rd Bat 7th Comp.
Killed in the Kouter zone up to the intersection of Aaltersesteenweg and Wakkense Heirweg in the 2nd echelon along the Schipdonk Canal. The day later, May 26, he died of his wounds in Deinze.
