Belgian War Graves Hotton

Hotton cemetery contains two war graves from the Second World War.

GUSTIN Willy, born in Chenée on March 27, 1914.
He studied at the faculty of letters and philosophy at the University of Liège and then taught at the atheneum in Liège.
Sergeant at the 1st Line, 3rd I.D. Comp C47 Tractee.
Died for the Fatherland in Juprelle on May 11, 1940.
He was killed during a bombing raid when he was attacked by the Luftwaffe in support of the 1st Line in the direction of the cross position near the Jeker.

MARTIN Carlos, born in Hotton on September 28, 1921
He was a volunteer with the Brigade Piron 1st Company 4th Platoon.
Killed in action on the field of honor in Leopoldsburg on September 12, 1944, he was 23 years old.

On September 11, the Belgian Piron Brigade left Brussels and came under the command of the 8th British Armored Brigade, with the order to advance to the Leopoldsburg-Heppen region. Early in the afternoon the Albert Canal was crossed at Beringen in the bridgehead occupied by the Dutch Princess Irene Brigade. Leopoldsburg was reached around 5 p.m. and a camp with 900 political prisoners was liberated.
On September 12, Carlos of the 1st Motorized Unit was seriously injured during an enemy mortar bombardment at the Leopoldsburg station. He died on the spot.
