The defense lines of the city of Liege, known as "La Posistion Fortifiée de Liège" consisted of 4 defense lines built around the city of Liège. It consisted of 16 forts with numerous linebunkers in between.
In addition to these linebunkers, there were also so-called 'Position Avancées', advanced positions. These were located at Beusdael, Bilstain, Dolhain, Goé, Grunhaut, Henri-Chapelle, Hèvremont, Hockai, Hombourg, Jalhay, Limbourg, Malmedy and Stavelot.
Stavelot is the last and most southbound town covered by "La Posistion Fortifiée de Liège.
In this town there are a number of advanced bunkers that fall under 'La position
avancée'. A total of 7 bunkers, A through G. Of these bunkers, 4 were located along the little river Amblève, A,B,C en G.
Bunker G is located along the river Amblève on the northside of town. The bunker has been partially covered with soil over the years. As a result, the entrance is no longer visible. The bunker is located on the strategically higher bank (relative to the other bank) and guarded the eastside of town.
They are small bunkers (2.5 x 2.5 m) that were used as observation and protection bunkers. They were equipped with a machine gun. The holes above the gun opening served for ventilation.
