Memorial Indiėgangers.

The plaque, which is cemented into the urn wall, was erected in memory of two residents of Someren-Heide who died during police actions in the former Dutch East Indies.

Jan Donkers
Jan was born on October 19, 1925 in Son and lives in Someren-Heide. As a conscript, he joined the Royal Army in Maastricht in September 1946 and was assigned to the 3-14 Infantry Regiment. He is sent to the Dutch East Indies to contribute to the restoration of peace and Dutch authority. He fell victim to escalating violence during the guerrilla battle and was killed during a patrol on June 26, 1949. He found his final resting place at the Dutch Menteng Pulo war cemetery in Jakarta.

Gerrit leaves with his battalion for the Dutch East Indies and is deployed there as a motorcycle orderly to contribute to the restoration of peace and Dutch authority. On July 9, 1949, Gerrit died during military actions. He finds his final resting place at the Dutch war cemetery Leuwigajah in Cimahi.

This monument was unveiled on May 29, 2003.
It was installed to replace an earlier plaque that was too poor to restore.
