During the Nazi era, a striking sandstone building was built on Marienstraße as the seat of the "Gauleitung" and thus the residence of the self-proclaimed "Franconian leader" Julius Streicher.
In 1949, the publishing house Nürnberger Presse moved into the building, partly as a conscious signal for the dawn of a new, democratic era.
The building is popularly known as the "Brown House".
