Bunker PL-13 Oupeye

This is bunker PL 13.

It is the 13th bunker from the Pontisse-Lixhe (PL) sector of the 4th Defense Line for the position of Liege, la Position Fortifiée de Liège 4 (PFL 4) and belongs to Fort Pontisse.

It is located at the edge of a meadow on a ridge with a perfect view of Oupeye and Visé. The bunker does still have its original barred entrance door. However the inner door has been removed.

The bunker is quite overgrown but is still accessible. The walls of the bunker are 1.3 meters thick on all sides, of reinforced concrete. They could withstand shelling with 150mm shells. These bunkers were built in the early 1930's.

This bunker was equipped with an observation turret. But this was either removed by the Germans during World War II for reuse in the Atlantic Wall or melted down for reuse of the steel. Or sold as scrap after the war when the bunkers had lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium. See photograph 5.
