Royallieu was one of Nazi Germany's largest transit camps in occupied France. More than 53,000 resistance fighters, Jews and hostages were held here, the vast majority of whom were deported from here to concentration camps and extermination camps in the east.
A monument was erected at this site in 2008 to commemorate this:
