In 1914 the village of Han, with only 13 houses, suffered no damage. The inhabitants were chased from their homes by German troops on 22 August 1914 to set up a field hospital in the village.
During the Battle of Rossignol, Brigade-General Charles Rondony was fatally wounded between Han and Villers-sur-Semois during a hopeless breakthrough of the German lines. The dying general was taken back to Han's hospital, where he died. In 1917 he was buried in the cemetery of Tintigny and in 1922 his body was repatriated to France.
