This is bunker CS 20 from the sector Comblain-Sougné of the 1st line of defense of the city of Liège, la Position Fortifiée de Liège 1 (PFL 1).
This was the last sector of the PFL 1. This sector ran west into sector Sougné-Becco (SB). Sector CS consisted of 31 bunkers to the south and west of the once planned but never built Fortres of Sougné-Remouchamps.
Bunker CS 20 is located along the Amblève River and has largely disappeared over the years under ground and newly constructed streets along the Amblève. Only from the front one tell it is a bunker. On top of the bunker a resting bench is placed to enjoy the view of the Amblève during a summer day. No gun openings or access are visible anymore. These are bunkers so undetectable today, that even the inhabitants of Remouchamps do not know, that the resting bench is placed on a bunker.
The walls and ceiling of the bunkers from the PFL line are 1.3 meters thick of reinforced concrete. They could withstand shelling with 150mm shells. They were built in the early 1930’s.
When after the war the bunkers lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium, the metal of the hatches and doors was sold as scrap metal.
