Double Heavy Machine Gun V.I.S. casemate 41

In the northern bridgehead of the Moerdijk road bridge (A16) aimed at the Hollands Diep, are the remains of the double heavy machine gun V.I.S. casemate 41.
The casemat had fire directions Hollands Diep - east and west. The road bridge could also be defended from this position on the pier by placing heavy machine guns on the road surface. Weapons and controls were available for this.
The casemate has been considerably damaged by subsequent renovations to the bridgehead and has partly been broken away, but is still recognisably present.
The casamat is no longer accessible to the public. The current entrance to the casemat is located on the river side of the bridge pillar.
The casemate is a municipal monument.
