In a small park near the harbour is a monument dedicated to Kos residents who died in the war between 1940 and 1945.
The monument lists the places where they perished, including:
Albania, on the Rubicon (Italy), Rimini, Libya and on the Dodecanese.
Since Kos island was under Italian control until 1947, it is likely that they fought for both the Italian- and later the Allied cause.
