Information Board Crash location Halifax LL294

Just south of the J.L. Hooglandgemaal, this information board represents the crew of Halifax LL294. Their aircraft was damaged during a bombing flight over Hoorn on the night of October 14 to 15, 1944, possibly by German anti-aircraft fire. The pilot was unable to keep the aircraft in the air and made a successful emergency landing on the IJsselmeer near Stavoren. Bomb Aimer WO Harold Leonard Ferguson RCAF drowns and is buried in Stavoren General Cemetry. The other five crew members reached shore with their dinghy and were able to go into hiding until they were liberated.
