This is where the Neevel family's farm 'De Klumpener' stood. The air raid shelter on the property offered a safe haven to residents and local residents during the war.
Memories of daughter Riek Neevel (1932): "My father built an underground potato storage with a chicken coop on top in 1937. We could not have imagined that the cellar would save our lives and others a few years later. We fled when air raids threatened. We went to this shelter many times during the war; during the last days of the war we even sat there day and night. The drum fire of the artillery sounded nearby on the evening of March 28 We already had English scouts on the property and on March 29, 1945, the Rietstap was liberated. Shortly afterwards, the whole of Dinxperlo was liberated."
The farm later became a silent witness to the war. The many shrapnel impacts were clearly visible on the rear facade, as well as in some of the doors and walls of the barn. The last residents until 2018 were Willem and Mina Neevel-Koskamp. Due to the expansion and opening up of the 't Hietveld industrial estate, the farm and therefore the air raid shelter were demolished in 2018.
