The memorial sign near the Border Spoel on the Aekingerveld recalls the place where the Jewish Lezer family was in hiding between 1943 and 1945. They stayed there in a customised State Forestry Administration sheds that had been moved by the Oosting family to a carved-out spot in the forest.
In total, father Jozef, mother Klara and their children Mia and Philip stayed in the shack for about 22 months, surviving the war. All this was only possible thanks to the courage and care of the Oosting family and other generous donors in the area.
