Guardhouse Bunker CS 25

This little stone building was the guardhouse of the soldiers of the nearby bunker CS 25.

The guardhouse and bunker are part of the Comblain-Sougné sector of the 1st line of defense of the city of Liège, la Position Fortifiée de Liège 1 (PFL 1).

The guardhouse was built in the late 1930s and executed in the architectural style of the region in order to be less conspicuous. The guardhouse allowed the soldiers of the garrison that manned the bunker to rest, wash up and go to the latrine.

The main room of the guardhouse contained table with four chairs and a coal stove. The other two rooms contained the coal storage and the latrine. There also was a reservoir to collect rainwater. This allowed them to save on drinkingwater which was difficult to supply given its location on the steep hill. The guardhouse, like bunker CS 5A bis, was connected to the electricity network.

Furthermore, one can think when standing at this location, how much effort it must have taken to build a bunker and accommodation at this steep position. And with the limitations in terms of cranes and other equipment that could not be used here. As indicated in the article on bunker CS 5A bis, the tank dome alone weighed 1,650 kg. It will have been lifted up in parts via numerous small wooden lifting devices.
