Memorial 15th Scottish Infantry Division Gavrus

The 15th (Scottish) Infantry Division was an infantry division of the British Army that served during the Second World War. It was formed on 2 September 1939, the day before war was declared, as part of the Territorial Army (TA) and served in the United Kingdom and later North-West Europe from June 1944 to May 1945.

The memorial commemorates the commitment in Gavrus on 28 June 1944 of units of the 15th Scottish Infantry Division. After nineteen days fighting, the town is liberated on 16 July by the 8th Battalion Royal Scots and the 8th Battalion The Essex, 153th Royal Tank Regiment. In the evening and the next day, the 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusilier, the 6th Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers and the 4th and 6th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers capture Hill 113
