The Neckar-Enz-Stellung was a German defence line built between 1935 and 1938. The line of bunkers (with a total lenght of 86km and consisted of 446 bunkers and 4 concrete foundations for observation towers) ran from Eberbach to Besigheim along the Neckar and from Besigheim to Enzweihingen along the Enz. The main task of this defence line was to stop a possible French advance in the inland of Germany.
The Neckar-Enz-Stellung was the last serious obstacle for the Americans in the south of Germany. The American advance in southern-Germany was haltered for 12 days due this line.
This is one of the two remaining highlights of the Neckar-Enz-Line.
An underground, Y-shaped 130m long cave system with two MG-rooms, a group shelter with two floors and three entrances five meters under the ground. It is located under a small hill specially built for this purpose because of the groundwater level.
There is no sign of it in the landscape; it is completely covered with earth, a street, a parking place and a house with a garden. The still usable entrance is in one of the surrounding buildings, the other two are buried.
