In Amsterdam, under the motto "Give Streets a Face", streets are provided with panels with the portrait of the namesake plus a short life course. In this way they want to give streets more personality. The initiator is Paul Fennis.
Between 1940 and 1945, Henk Curière Sr. led a small communist resistance group in the Spaarndammerbuurt that was mainly concerned with distributing resistance newspapers (the illegal ones, De Waarheid) and collecting money for people in hiding. He has been awarded the Resistance Cross and the Golden Pin of the Municipality of Amsterdam.
