Caudé Water Wells Concud

At the place known as "Pozos de Caudé" there used to be an old inn along the road that connects Sagunto with Burgos.
Since hardly anyone lived there and there was virtually no traffic during the day, this place was ideal for killing and hiding the bodies of those whose ideology did not fit or who opposed the uprising.

The now covered well edge is still visible at the place of execution.
It was a pit 3 meters wide and 50 meters deep that was filled with corpses from July 1936 to December 1937. When it was full, they dug mass graves to remove the bodies.
Teruel changed regimes a few times. Historically, it appears that the murders were committed by both Nationalists and Republicans.

There are three monuments next to the well edge.
A monument commemorates the victims shot in Pozos del Caudé during the Spanish Civil War. Another monument commemorates the anarchist victims. Finally, there is a wall of gravestones placed by families of murdered relatives.
