Six hundred urns containing the remains of the victims of Vienna's Am Spiegelgrund children's clinic were interred in the section for victims of National Socialism in the Vienna General Cemetery in 2002. The young patients were murdered by the Nazis because they were considered not worthy of life (Lebensunwertes Leben). The clinic was part of the psychiatric hospital Am Steunhof. Sick and disabled children and adolescents became victims of medical experiments, starvation and psychological abuse here. The victims were killed by lethal injections, gassing and starvation, among other methods.
In addition to the victims of Spiegelgrund, the remains of victims of the euthanasia program from other hospitals are also interred here.
