Commemorative Plaque Fallen Russian Prisoners of War

In the cemetery of the church of Emael is a memorial plaque for two fallen Russian prisoners of war from the 1st World War.

They died while performing their assigned task.

They were used in this region to build the railroad line that ran from the German border to the front at Ypres. This railroad provided constant supplies to the German armies in the 'Westhoek'. This railroad was constructed in a way that it did not cross any roads anywhere, forcing the train to stop. This ensured a constant supply to the front.

The two Russians lie in an anonymous grave in the cemetery of Emael.
