The Las Viñas sector and Teruel cemetery was one of the most controversial places since the start of the civil war. On the ridge rising above the prison center, opposite La Muela that dominates the old Zaragoza highway and the Turia riverbed, a defense line had been built northwards from which to combat a possible incursion from the river valley.
Some remains of that line can still be seen, such as a fort with thick concrete walls, used as an observatory, the occasional rifle post and a bunker.
