German Bunker Abbiette "Brandhof"

Engineers of the German army built a series of reinforced concrete bunkers along the front from 1915. Dozens of these bunkers are still scattered across the landscape around Weppes, including this L'Abbiette command bunker, a kilometre from the front line.

A special historical fact is that Corporal Adolf Hitler was stationed in this bunker between March 1915 and September 1916. He served as a courier in the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment. He visited the sector again in 1940.
