Belgian War Graves Visé

The Lorette Cemetery in Visé contains not only the graves of war veterans and of soldiers and civilians killed during the First and Second World Wars, but also a number of separate war graves.

The grave of

DEBEFVE Guillaume, age 22, soldier, born and living in Visé.

He managed to escape from occupied Belgium and rejoined the Belgian army in England in June 1942. He was assigned as a soldier to Brigade Piron, 1st infantry brigade, 2nd motorized unit, and was present at the liberation of Brussels on September 2nd, 1944. On September 6th, 1944, he was granted a few days' leave and decided to visit his family in Visé. However Visé was then still in German hands. Although the Americans were already almost in the village. Together with Michel Flohimont, he decides to accompany the American troops to Visé. There he was shot by a German sniper.

A monument has been erected at this site in Visé.
