Belgian wargrave Henri Diet

In the cemetery next to the church of Saint-Remy is the grave of war volunteer Henri Diet.

Also located on the church wall are two commemorative plaques for soldier Diet.

Soldier Diet served with the 2nd Company, 4th Battalion of the Engineers and was born in Saint-Remy and is also buried there after the war.

He was seriously wounded by shrapnel on the road between Zarren and Staden (West Flanders) about 400 meters from the mill of Staden. He died left in the garden of a small house near a 1st aid post on October 7th, 1918 at the age of 21.
