War Memorial Milmort

In the municipal cemetery at the St. Hubertus Church of Milmort is a monument to the fallen soldiers from Milmort during the 1st World War.

The monument commemorates

DEVROYE Lambert, age 38, soldier, died on March 3rd, 1919.of wounds sustained during worldwar 1.

HERMESSE Armand, age 25, Lieutenant in the 14th Line Regiment, died October 3rd, 1918 in the hospital of Hoogstade (West Flanders) as a result of 2 bullets in his leg.

STASSART René, age 20 years old, soldier in the 14th line regiment. he was first deployed near the Fort of Barchon, after the fort fell and he withdrew with the troops he was again deployed at Aerschot and later at the battle of Haacht (between Brussels and Antwerp), where he was wounded on his arm on September 12th, 1914. His arm had to be amputated, after which he died of the effects on September 16th, 1914. Among his comrades he was much loved for his fearless courage. He was first buried in Antwerp. Now he rest at this cemetery.

SAUVEUR Henri, age 28, soldier in the 14th line regiment, died on November 15th, 1918 (4 days after the armistice) from the effects of probably the Spanish Flu (double pneumonia) in captivity in Germany. (See also photo 4, judging by the emblems on his collar he was a member of the military marching band of the 14th line regiment.)

ALLART Armand, age 29, soldier in the 12th line regiment, killed at Milmort on August 6th, 1914.

CHARLIER Emile, age 21, private with the 12th line regiment, killed in action at Milmort on August 6th, 1914.

JEORIS Jean, age 28, private of the 12th line regiment, killed in action at Milmort on August 6th, 1914.
